JCI Zugbuana is an all-female chapter based in Cebu, Philippines. Now on its 32nd year, the Zugbuana retains its status as one of the best all-female organizations in the country, with a bigger membership base of beautiful and brilliant lady leaders, making a difference in the community and living out our mission of being agents of positive change.
History
In 1991, JCI Senator Lucio “Jun” Lim together with JCI Member Antonio Climaco of the all-male, exclusive chapter of JCI Metro Cebu Uptown, envisioned a female counterpart of their local organization to join them as a sister chapter in this powerful JCI movement. Also known as the “Godfather of Zugs”, he started a training ground for Cebu’s female leaders.
Charter President
The honourable JCI Senator and now congresswoman Dulce Ann Hofer became the charter president of JCI Zugbuana who led members who have strong leadership potential.
What is JCI?
Junior Chamber International, commonly referred to as JCI, is a non-profit international non-governmental organization of young people between 18 and 40 years old. It has members in about 124 countries, and regional or national organizations in most of them.
The first local Junior Chamber chapter was founded in 1915, but the international umbrella organization Junior Chamber International (JCI) was founded in Mexico in 1944.
By the age of 18, Henry Giessenbier Jr. had formed the Herculaneum Dance Club, a social outlet for the community's youth. On October 13, 1915, the first JCI Movement was founded when 32 men joined to form the Young Men's Progressive Civic Association (YMPCA) at the Mission Inn located in their hometown of St. Louis, USA.
